Hello Megan. Hello from when? We are not in our usual recording space, which is my living room. You might be able to hear we're not in our usual recording space. No, I'm we're my luckily my living room is not underwater. We are coming to this to you from the Disney Dream. Woohoo! The incredible cruise liner.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
BronwenWe neither of us has ever been on a cruise ship before. No. So it's been quite a uh it's been a real experience. Um yeah, it's very exciting. We are currently cruising. We are sitting on our veranda dark in our lovely state room. And as we are looking out over the sea, and the sun is setting. Sun is setting over the whatever bit of the sea this is. Yeah. English channels. English channels. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. It's very beautiful. It is. Yeah, we're kind of almost kind of coming to the end of day one of our cruise adventure. Yeah, so we should explain. It's a short one. Yeah.
SPEAKER_10Um, so it's just a weekend from Southampton to Rotterdam, uh, Friday to Monday. So we have set sail from Southampton. We arrive in Rotterdam tomorrow morning, have a day in Rotterdam, and then on Sunday we have a day at sea, and then Monday we're back in South Hampton.
BronwenWe we decided to do a shorter cruise to start with because we have no idea whether we're gonna like it or not. Yeah, I'm pretty sure we will, but I mean you just don't know, do you? So we have started with this one, and who this hopefully, well, hopefully for us, maybe not, hopefully for other people, it's a gateway into longer cruises. You you can keep this in if you want, but at the moment the sun is setting, and I'm really tempted to say that was the last time a Disney Dream ever saw a day like.
SPEAKER_03Oh man!
BronwenProbably so dark, all of my titaniacs out there.
SPEAKER_03Oh wow.
BronwenSo we arrived immediately. You're met with like the incredible atrium. Oh my goodness, which has amazing chandeliers, a beautiful step like a statue of Donald Duck. Yeah, yeah, absolutely. We'll post pictures. 100%. So we've had a bit of an explore. We went to Mickey's sail away party. Yes, very busy, very hot. Yes, very sunny. We did manage to find some some cocktails.
SPEAKER_03Yes, we had the cocktail of the day, which was amazing.
BronwenWhich helps?
SPEAKER_11Bahama mama. Bahama mama, yes, rum.
SPEAKER_02Rum, I love run. I haven't had anything to eat or drink all day, and those cocktails really hit the spot. They really did.
BronwenI I loved those cocktails.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
BronwenUm, and then we came back to our veranda to kind of experience us leaving Southampton and sort of the uh whatever we call that bit of sea, but right by. Well, there's the Solent. We came down Solent by the Isle of Wight. Yeah. Everyone's gonna learn from this how genuinely terrible my geography is. I didn't do geography GCSC, I literally know don't know where anywhere is. I think the other thing I want to say at this point, and I said this to you before, but just for the podcast, I we in our normal lives are like Disnerds. Yes. We are people that know Disney and people know that we know Disney. I mean we have a podcast. We have a podcast. I feel like we have entered another dimension on this cruise ship. We are unworthy. We are not worthy. There are people here who clearly have worshipped for much longer at the altar of Mickey than we have. They live and breathe, Disney. Arride at the terminal with their ears on, with their matching outfits. Yeah, and I I am I'm overcome. The other thing we have done, which we can talk about, is our first show, our first performance. Yes. Do you wanna we went to the Golden Mickeys? Yes. Which were like the Oscars, yes, for Disney films. Yeah. It was a really nice sort of variety show of like lots of different bits of Disney, lots of different songs, lots of different performances. Yeah. I was like I say, first time on a cruise ship, first time seeing a cruise ship performance. I was blown away by what they could do. It was incredible. I mean, they kept talking about all of the advertising for the cruise talks about the Broadway standard of the shows, and I thought, okay, yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_03That's just your marketing pitch, yeah. But they truly were.
BronwenWell, I mean, I can't speak to Broadway, I've never been to Broadway, but they were West End standards. Yeah. Oh, it was. Yeah. What bits particularly stood out to me? Um, the bit where they they did like a segment on Disney villains and um Ursula's tentacles, yes, like reaching out on into the like first row. Yes, they were massive and they were coming out of the a hole in the stage, yes, like writhing around. Incredible, yeah, absolutely incredible. Um so there was there was a bit of favourite Disney heroes in musicals. Yeah. I loved having a performance from Quasimodo do you out there. I Out There is such a great song. Hunchback is a great film. I feel like everyone agrees on that, but like Disney, I don't feel it's a fan favourite rather than a Disney favourite, I think. And it was but it was so it was really nice to see some representation. You never see any representation. Um and then we have Tarzan. Now so Tarzan's there swinging around, yeah. Scantily glad. Did you worry about his loincloth or not? I did.
SPEAKER_03I felt sure, given that he was swinging around so dramatically, I thought there had to be a lot of engineering going on with that loincloth.
BronwenYeah, that there was some sort of short situation, but I was thinking I I mean I hope so.
SPEAKER_03We had a little like burlesque number from Corella de Ville. Yes, that was quite saucy.
SPEAKER_12That was quite saucy.
BronwenOh, we had Can You Feel the Love Snipe from Loin King?
SPEAKER_02That was amazing.
BronwenAnd I see the lights uh from Tangled, which is a big favourite of mine. That was amazing. I was interested because we've covered this on the podcast, so I want to go back to it. The first performance was from Disney's first feature animation, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. They actually they had Dopey, didn't speak, loved it, they didn't change his story and make it so that he could speak, unlike the live-action film, which as I said really annoyed me. Um but they then had children from like who were kids on the cruise ship be the other dwarves. Yes, and they put on beards. They put on beards, yeah.
SPEAKER_10But there were also people on stage who I thought were supposed to be the dwarves who were just an average height, yeah.
BronwenAn average height, yeah, yeah, yeah. So yeah, that was interesting. It was yeah. It's obvious that I think it just goes seeing this as well really does make me think I think Disney is trying to be very sensitive on this issue and do the right thing. Um but it's very difficult to do, I think. I thought it was interesting as well, not actually in the performers, but in the stuff that we saw on screen. There was a lot of Princess and the Frog representations like Tiana and the Bean come up all the time. I was wondering whether I was just, you know, when you learn a new word and it comes up in your life all the time, and we just at the time of doing this, we are uh we've released the Princess and the Frog podcast, we're waiting to do the next one. Um, so I did wonder. Are we just hyper aware of nervous and the frog? But they showed it a lot in your face every time I looked at you. When they showed, oh what's his name? Ray. Ray. Ray with his little monkey teeth.
SPEAKER_12What's wrong with monkey teeth?
BronwenI think you'd be monky teeth. Um yeah, that was really interesting. Um I was interested by the fact there was no frozen at all. Oh, good point! Like no, it didn't come up on the screen. There was no reference to it at all. I was like, that is so weird. That frozen is Disney's like cash cow. Yeah. I wonder if it's because it's on another ship, or if there are other shows that we've got to go to, and maybe Frozen has a big representation. Maybe. Well, so we got we've got Beauty and the Beast. Yeah, so I'm guessing Frozen's not going to appear massively in that. But there's another one just called Believe. Yes. And we don't know what that's about. This show did feel overall like quite Old Disney. We went all the way back to. I agree. We went all the way back to Snow White, and then we did a lot of Renaissance. Yeah. This was very Renaissance couldn't. We had had 101 donations, Renaissance, and the newest, I think, was Tangled.
SPEAKER_10Yeah.
BronwenUm yeah, maybe you're right, maybe believe, and we'll we'll get back to our audience. Maybe believe will have because it's just I don't get that. Like, frozen is everything.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, that yeah, that is interesting. I hadn't thought of it, but yeah, you're right, it just it never even appeared on the screen in their little montage.
BronwenNo, not at all.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, interesting.
BronwenBecause there was a lot of respect for Walt in this show, wasn't there? That they kept coming back to Walt Walt workship at point like his big picture.
SPEAKER_01Don't get me wrong, I love Walt.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_11I think the other thing that people need to know, moving on from the show, yeah, is that Bromwyn has managed to find a toothbrush.
BronwenOkay, so in case you were all wondering, yes, I have found a toothbrush. Yes, I I forgot my toothbrush. I always forget something. I forgot my toothbrush. I brought toothpaste. Yeah, I've got a whole tube, a whole big tube. I bought a brand new tube toothpaste. You were so prepared. I was so and then I realised as we were sailing away. That's the moment. Do we know my toothbrush? Do we need to talk about the life jackets?
SPEAKER_03We can talk about the life jackets.
BronwenUm I was very surprised that we came into the room and they were showing like the TV was on and it was like the useful information channel. Yeah. And we it had a an explanation of how to put on the life jackets, and it said, you know, it's important not to play with them. So yeah, sure, that obviously. But then they did say it's okay to have fun with them. That person made that distinction between having fun and playing. Yeah, which I was quite fun. And they showed a this this picture of this family, like, or they showed a bit of a video of like a fake family, yeah, taking a picture of them all wearing up, and they then go on and say, You should practice putting on your life jacket you know, in before there's an emergency, and we were just sort of a bit like why are we doing this?
SPEAKER_02I'm so glad we did. How long did it take us to think about? The problem was, so they encourage us to try them on, and then they rapidly proceed to tell you how to do it. In the next 20 seconds, they finish the explanation. We're still getting them out the cupboards, yeah, and they have finished explaining how you put them on. So we then struggled for some time. We did.
BronwenI would say it did take us a little while. Um so what are we doing this evening? What's left today? Well, we need to go and eat. Yes. We are eating at the Enchanted Garden this evening, so we need to look at the menu.
SPEAKER_03Oh, and now we're back in the room. I'm reminded that our lovely steward, who is responsible for our like corridor of rooms, um, has left us.
BronwenI think it's a blanket that he's folded up in like the shape of a snake. I do not need a blanket. It's very nice. And uh two chocolates, which is very nice. And then what else? What else is on the docket for this evening? Is that I don't think there was anything else particularly we were gonna Did we want to go and see if any of the shops were still open? Oh yeah, maybe, because when we looked at the shops earlier, they were absolutely hating. I will say, and I I do appreciate that I'm on a Disney cruise, and I I've made some choices there. There are a lot there's a lot of children, and I like children. I like children, but I feel like half the people on this ship are under the age of 10. It's a very high proportion compared to my normal life. Yes. Um and generally as well, just a lot of people. Just a lot of people. Like we've been to some very crowded spaces. We're hoping people will start to branch out at this point. Yeah. So we might go and look at some shops, but we want to come back here, we both need a shower, and then we were gonna watch something. Because we've got our Disney on demand on our tele, maybe something we were thinking The Pirates of the Caribbean or Princess Diary. Yeah, yeah. Okay. We were thinking Treasure Planet would be ideal, but they don't have it. We want things like sea themes or like ship themes. Why not have Treasure Planet? Why not have Treasure Planet? Why? And then tomorrow we are going to Rotterdam.
SPEAKER_03Yes, that's something we need to do this evening, is like plan what we're gonna do in Rotterdam. Yeah, but the cruise director was telling us at the end of the Golden Mickeys um that we're only getting into Rotterdam quite late in the morning, actually. Probably um disembarking at 11. So we even we have time in the morning to work stuff out of it. We do indeed.
BronwenWow. Yeah. I think we can wrap that up then. I think we can wrap up the podcast for now. We will be back if we're still alive. So good morning Megan. Good morning, Bromlin. We are on day two of our cruise. We are we are back in the room having had our breakfast this morning. Yep. Already been to the shop this morning.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_13And we are currently sailing cruising, sorry. Cruising. We are currently cruising um, I don't actually know where.
BronwenUm looks like oil refinery stuff. I'm gonna have a quick look at a map. Um Yeah, I mean we are basically at Rotterdam. Okay. Yeah, yeah. It's an interesting view. I wouldn't call it pretty. It's quite industrial, isn't it? It is. Yeah, we didn't see a whole thing cards earlier that we did. So what have we done since we last recorded? Because we'd been we'd been to the show at that point, it was between the show and dinner. We went to dinner. We went to dinner at the enchanted garden. It was very pretty. It was super pretty.
SPEAKER_02It was um the the chap who was serving us was explaining that it was based on the gardens of Versailles.
BronwenYeah, because it was all very kind of freak and green and very pretty. And the lights changed as the evening went on and got darker. Yeah, Mickey and Friends, which was great.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
BronwenAnd then it went dark again. Yeah. I'm assuming he was going around like all of the you think he was going around all the restaurants?
SPEAKER_02Probably. Yeah, so there are three restaurants. Yeah.
BronwenUm how did you find the food?
SPEAKER_03It was good.
SPEAKER_02Um so I had I had lobster ravioli to start, and then I had scallops for my mane, and then a chocolate ice cream sundae for pudding, which I was far too full for.
SPEAKER_03But they they just they just serve you three courses. Yeah, like we didn't seem to have a choice in that. So how about you?
BronwenDid you enjoy your I did? I had um tomato soup at the start, and that was very nice. Then I had recot uh gnocchi, that was nice. And then I had a chocolate call similarly to you. I was kind of too full for that either. Um but yeah, it was it was really good.
SPEAKER_03So um we should explain as well that one of the things that happens is that we've been allocated a particular table with other people, and that every night we'll be in a different restaurant, but we'll be with the same people and we will have the same waiters.
BronwenYes, it's quite an intimate affair. It is, yes, we're going to get to know the people on our table well. So, uh and then after our meal, we went, we did go round the shopping area. We went shopping. We did, we did, we did come away with some merch.
SPEAKER_00Merch.
BronwenWhat did you get, Megan? I got a very beautiful jumper that was a lot more expensive than that I was expecting.
SPEAKER_02Really should have looked harder for a price tag. Um yes, I took it to the deal and they told me the price, and I was like, oh okay, well I love it, so yes.
BronwenI don't think they're very good at putting um prices on things.
SPEAKER_03No, no, it's probably quite deliberate.
BronwenQuite deliberate, yeah.
SPEAKER_09Like you don't really know.
BronwenI didn't I haven't yet, but I want to get to the Mickey ears, but they are gonna be really crazy Mickey ears are like, yeah. Um yeah, yeah. How about you? What did you get? I got a new child for my hand for that. It is a little crucial. And on the bottom it says Disney cruiserline, so you know that it's a Disney cruiserline and it's exclusive, and then there's also a little angle with uh Mickey simple. So I I have a growing collection of ones that I exclusive from Disney. They didn't have a specific Disney dream one, but I didn't like that. If I start getting into the habit of buying a charm for every single different cruise liner, and then we're gonna have to catch them all. Yeah, yeah, that and that's that's that's getting a little bit too expensive. Um and yeah, I do have my eyes on some Mickey. Minnie is captain mini is this is something I didn't say last night, and I want to add about the show. Yes, is that one of the things I loved about the show is that Minnie was presented as the she is. I really like that in terms of like female empowerment, and it you know, Mickey, Mickey was just there in a golden suit dancing, like Minnie was working, Minnie was bringing in the buttons, yeah. And I like that.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, that's it.
BronwenSorry, that's a tangent.
SPEAKER_03And so then we came back to our room.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, uh, we turned the air conditioning all the way up, and so it was freezing. Absolutely freezing. I actually got to wear my new jumper in bed. It was so cold. It was so cold. I eventually caved and went and turned the thunderstorm out of that.
SPEAKER_08It was really, really cold.
BronwenUm yeah, we've been for breakfast this morning. It was good, that was a lot there. It was good. Yeah. And we had another little perusal of the shoulders. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It is the cruising of the waiting for the dog.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah, we're still moving along. As I say, we're basically in Rotterdam. So we should say, um, we haven't talked yet about how um attentive um our crew member has been looking after the room.
SPEAKER_02Like every time we go out, it seems he knows he comes in and he tidies. Yeah, he tells he's left us like there's a blanket that he turned into a little snail.
SPEAKER_03I I think we did talk about that last night, actually.
BronwenOh, well, you need to talk about how you Kills the snail.
SPEAKER_02Yes. Cecil, as I christened him, sacrificed himself because I was so cold. Yes.
SPEAKER_03So he became not a snail anymore and became a blanket.
BronwenR.I.P. Cecil. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03But then this morning we came back from breakfast and he'd put away, Bromwin has like this fold away bed that turns into a sofa. So he'd done all the tiding and everything and left us these pirate bandanas because tonight is pirate night. Which we were not really expecting.
BronwenWe thought they only did that on the longer cruises. So I did not bring my pirate hat, alas. But now I have a bandana. That's exciting. We've got we've got um a pirate night to look forward to. So yeah, shall we talk through our schedule for the day? Yeah, what we know of it. Yeah. So we'll be able to go out into Rotterdam at about 11. That famous Disney haunt, Rotterdam.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I assume we should be wearing our Mickey ears as we look at.
BronwenI wasn't thinking that. I was like, I need to if I was just to wear them out in Rotterdam, I'd probably get some looks. Um and then we will be coming back in time for 6 15 as we will be going and seeing our second show, Believe. Don't know anything about Believe. Nope. No idea. Very excited for that. Then we're going to be having dinner at uh the Royal Palace today. And then it's Pirate Night. Yeah. That's very exciting. Yeah. All very exciting stuff. So Megan. Hello. Think about where we are. Yeah, we are in Rotterdam.
SPEAKER_01We've just been exploring City for a day.
SPEAKER_10And we're just walking back to the ship now.
SPEAKER_01I thought we'd try and capture some of the ambiance.
BronwenYes. People are flying around on the aqueduct. Oh yeah. We need to do that. We have to do a lot of more, I think. But we have been up the what was it called? The Euro something. Euro what's it called? We won't find that out. Hang on.
SPEAKER_07We're not. It won't find out.
BronwenEuro mask. Euromart. Yeah. Great power. Um in rock dance. You can see the entirety of rock stance. Yeah. And I'll reach it right. And then we we pay extra to go up for the extra one.
SPEAKER_13Then multiple extent turns around 360 degrees.
BronwenAnd the core is glass.
SPEAKER_13That was brilliant. That was quite a lot. Quite a lot from my dental. You did very well. Thank you. Thank you very much.
SPEAKER_03Every view is brilliant. Keep having to take photos, sorry.
SPEAKER_13No, no, it's not the other side. This is the kind of the best view of the ship I think we get. Oh Mickey's on the bone.
SPEAKER_06You think that's the so pretty.
SPEAKER_13Yeah, it is. So we are on this end. Yeah.
BronwenAnd the people next to us just have they just have walk holes. Yeah.
unknownWhich I think.
SPEAKER_09Alright, this is the entrance then.
SPEAKER_01Okay. In which case, Mike take this opportunity to put everything away.
SPEAKER_10Yep, it's good. Goodbye, microphone. Say goodbye to the mic for now.
BronwenRight, where are we now, Bronwyn? Well, we are back on our private veranda, darling, overlooking the uh cruise terminal at Rotterdam. And uh it's a very urban view that we have right now. It certainly is, yes. Yes, it's a very nice evening, yeah. So it hasn't actually been that long since we recorded our little bit as we came back to the ship. Uh what have we been doing since then? We have gone to a show. We have gone to a show Disney's Believe. Yes. Before we get there, we actually did have a little break. Oh, that is true. Finished watching the Princess Diaries. Great film. Great film. Can't believe that film is 25 years old. Oh man. That blows my mind. Yeah. Uh miracles happen. Uh we had a little break, and then yes, we went and Bagsy some really good seats for Believe, our second show. So what was so tell me, Megan, what was the show kind of about?
SPEAKER_02So, um, the basic premise is that you've got a father and daughter.
SPEAKER_03The father is like some sort of botanist or something, he's trying to grow a flower to show to the like Royal Horticultural Society or something like that.
SPEAKER_02Something like that. Um, and uh, he's very scientific. And it's his daughter's birthday, and so she's all excited about this um like magic hat and wand that he's given her, but he's very focused on his science and not on magic. Yeah, yeah.
BronwenUm so then he ends up rubbing a um wolf ring can out of which a genie appears, and much magic ensues.
SPEAKER_04Many magical shenanigans, then yes.
BronwenIt felt very more like a pantomime than I was sort of expecting. It had the genie particularly doing a lot of breaking the fourth wall.
SPEAKER_02Yes, he was very funny. The kids loved him, yes, the kids loved him. There were people in absolute hysterics, yeah.
BronwenSometimes at like very unfunny moments. Yeah, or things I just didn't expect a child to laugh at, like his share impression. I was like, a child isn't gonna understand that. Yeah, what child is listening to believe? Um, but yeah, what what did you think?
SPEAKER_02Oh, I thought it was great. Yeah, again, just the the quality of it was outstanding. Yes. Um yeah, the genie was so funny, he was the standout, I think. Um, and then yeah, it was another really interesting um set of Disney references, wasn't it? Maybe not the ones we would have picked out.
BronwenNo, I have been really interested and pleased with the variety of the Disney films that we have they've kind of showed to us, and some of them really deep cuts. Like today we got Merlin from The Swords and the Stone and Higgus Pigippus, whatever that song is called, like it's a really deep cut, that's um we got some of the jungle book. I know that's a much more popular film, but still these days. Yeah, Peter Pan as well. Yep. The newest film that we got was The Princess and the Frog. Yes, again, lots of Princess and the Frog. There was a lot of Princess and Princess and the Frog. So yeah, no frozen. No, which I was very surprised at. We had The Lion King again.
SPEAKER_12Yes, we had The Lion King again.
BronwenDidn't have Tangled this time, no. I suppose Tangled isn't about necessarily believing. Maybe. Had Pocahontas. Pocahontas, yes. Um, Beauty and the Beast.
SPEAKER_03Yep. Had a whole like princess.
SPEAKER_12Yep, we had a princess section. Yeah, so we had Drapunzel, Cinderella, Jasmine.
BronwenYeah. It was it was another really good variety. Initially, because the first song, there's like one original song. I was like, oh, we're gonna get all original content. Yeah, I was thinking that which is fine because I was like, that that's not really what I came here for. I want Disney. Uh but it was kind of nice to have the mix. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, it was a bit different.
SPEAKER_03To begin with, I thought it was gonna be a bit like um Mickey the Magician in Disneyland.
BronwenYes, I see I see, yeah. Because it starts off with Merlin doing magic and making a mess. That was reminding me of Mickey the Magician, but then it kind of diverges and a bit different. We did get cameos from Minnie and Mickey the Emps. Absolutely. Mickey and his sorcerer outfits, yeah, which is mega favourite. Yeah, yes. Minnie was wearing a lovely dress, she was looking very beautiful, yeah. She always does. I it was a similar sort of theme to what Disney do in terms of believe. Yes, and that believe can be a little bit vague as to what it actually means. You just need to believe, yeah, and you can do anything, but in what yeah, you could do anything, but I can't do it. But I I appreciate the uh the sentiments.
SPEAKER_02It was kind of a similar message to the one last night, wasn't it, where it was all about the new presenter believing in herself.
BronwenYeah, um, yeah. So yeah, we have one more show. We do Beauty and the Beast, which we'll be seeing at the same time tomorrow. Very excited for that. I love Beauty and the Beast, particularly on stage. I think it works better on stage.
SPEAKER_02Um we had a bit of Beauty and the Beast tonight.
SPEAKER_12We had Beast Guests. We did, we did, and we actually did we have Beauty and the Beast tonight. I think we did. We're gonna get it every night. Yes, strong Beauty and the Beast present. We love it.
BronwenUh getting its representation. We're eating at the Royal Palace tonight, which for some reason I've been imagining is like Beauty and the Beast themed, but I don't know if I've completely made that up. We'll find out. We'll find out, we'll find out. Uh, what was I gonna say? So, uh and after that we then have Mickey's Pirates in the Caribbean show at 10:30.
SPEAKER_11Yeah.
BronwenSo we're gonna have a little bit of Nikki and that'll be the end of day two.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, pretty much.
BronwenExciting. Yeah, cool. Any other thoughts?
SPEAKER_11No thoughts, brain empty. Brain empty I'm tired but happy.
BronwenOh. Well, we can have a little rest now.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, that sounds good.
BronwenAlright, well, ta-ta for now. I was gonna say good morning, Bromwyn, but it is the afternoon. Good afternoon, Bromwyn. Good afternoon, Megan. How are you? I'm really tired. I've been having lots of fun and I slept really well, but I'm also really tired. It's been too much fun, too much fun. Can't cope. Oh, so it is the afternoon of Sunday, of day three, the last final day of our cruise. Mm-hmm. And but what else did we do last night? It was pirate night. It was pirate night, yes. So we went up on deck um for the pirate party. Yes. Um that was fun. Yeah. We had more cocktails. We did. We we had more cocktails in the adults only area. It was very nice. Lovely and peaceful. It was very quiet. We were just listening to the sounds of pirate night. It did sound very fun.
SPEAKER_02It did sound fun, but it was also nice to be up in the peace and quiet.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it was really nice. We uh sailed through the night, it was really nice.
BronwenWe then uh came retired to our room, watched Song of Pirates of the Caribbean. Yes, you know, because it was appropriate.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, because it was Pirate Night.
BronwenAnd yeah, that was it for that day. Yeah. And then this morning we went and had breakfast at the same place that we went yesterday. Yes. We did that, and then we went uh we did our sort of water activities. Uh we sampled the pool, the adult pool. That was very nice, it's it's pretty um deep, actually. Yeah, uh, I couldn't stand up and the hot tub, which was amazing, tell them about the hot tub.
SPEAKER_03Well, the hot tub is positioned like right next to the window. Um so you're just when you're in there, you're just looking out at sea, and it's like a continuation of the water.
BronwenAnd there's there's also a window in the bottom of the hot tub that looks down onto the decks below, so you can see like lifeboats and stuff underneath you. That was very cool. Yeah, it was very cool. It was very hot. It was very hot. The hottest hot tub I've ever been in. Yeah, it was it was lovely. Um and we also went on the aqua duck. Tell them about the aqueduct.
SPEAKER_02Oh my goodness, the aqueduct was great.
SPEAKER_03So it's like this flume thing that goes all the way around the ship, and as you're in a little inflatable thing, and as you can go either as one person or as two, so we went as two, yes, and as there are these little drops where it then kind of spurts you back up again.
BronwenYeah, I was very brave. You were very brave. I was very brave. Uh Megan came with me for moral support. I was screaming, you were laughing, that's our general way of being.
SPEAKER_03It was really fun, and you had great views out over the sea and over the boats.
BronwenYeah. We had to queue for quite a while and then it was over really quickly, but it was worth the queue. I feel like the queue would have got longer, so I'm glad we went when we did. Yeah. It's it was we were told it was gonna be 45 minutes. I think it was I think it was less than that. Half an hour. Yeah. And then uh our next thing was we went to we have just been to see Toy Story 5 at the Buena Vista Theatre on the cruise ship. So yeah, we've got a whole film to review.
SPEAKER_03Yes. I mean, um well, it's not gonna be in our canon of Disney animated features, but maybe once we finish those, we'll eventually get round to reviewing all the pigs on that.
BronwenYeah. Yeah. What did you think of Toy Story 5? Oh, it was really fun. I I don't feel like I've had enough time to like absorb it properly yet, and also I'm very tired. But I had a really good time. Yeah. It made me emotional, and I thought the messages were nice. Yeah, I agree. I thought it was really good. So much better than four. When they said they were doing five, I was like, no, I don't, I don't need this. But five really brought it back for me, I think. I think it dealt with some pretty heavy subjects really sensitively. And I was a little bit worried halfway through that obviously, you know, we'll make this spoiler-free. Um, but everyone knows that this one was gonna be about the toys taking on tech. Yeah. And I was slightly worried that they were just gonna be like, yeah, tech is terrible, terrible, terrible. We just need to get rid of it, when that's just not a realistic goal. Um, but they kind of really sensitively thought about it and kind of thought about okay, how do we integrate tech more safely and appropriately, particularly for children, and I really liked that.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
BronwenUh I thought it was really good. Um very focused on Jesse. And we love Jesse. Jesse is the best. And um I obviously love the fact that it finished on a Tether Swift song.
SPEAKER_11It was a good song. Oh, good, good, I'm glad you agree.
BronwenI'm glad you agree. Um, so yeah, that was a really fun experience to get to see the and it was I was there were a lot of children. There was a busy showing and there were a lot of children and they were staying focused. Yeah, I think the children behave better than the adults.
SPEAKER_03Yes. Because we had adults around us who were like chatting and looking at their phones and stuff.
BronwenYes. But I didn't hear any children. No, no, the children were locked in. It was the adults who were less locked in.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I thought there was a certain irony actually to the fact that the film was sort of bewailing people looking at screens.
BronwenAnd that well, obviously we're all sitting there looking at a big screen, but then we've got people in front of us who are also looking at their phones, and it's like, oh man, this is it's a parable. Yeah, it's a parable, and if you're not getting it, you're not getting it. Yeah, so uh so that gets us up to speed for what we have been doing today. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03So what we thought we'd do next, and we'll just kind of leave this recording, is we thought we'd go for a little wander around the ship and pick up some noises. Yeah. Maybe discuss what we see on the way, but we just thought it would be nice to get some ambiance.
BronwenYeah. Should we start at the top? Yeah. Like if we go up to the top deck and walk around a bit, and then there's one level where we can do an entire lap around the outside. Oh, yeah. Maybe if we do that, and then we could go down to like the shops and stuff. Does that sound like a plan? Yeah. Genius. Also, it's an opportunity for me to go to the go to the shop.
SPEAKER_11Okay. Let's go walkys.
BronwenOh, I love the fact that there's just a constant like playlist of Disney music. And we're going deep into the catalogue. Yeah.
SPEAKER_11Aristocats right now. Very appropriate for the Gabble sisters. And also generally for the cat lovers out there.
BronwenYeah. Isn't this true? I think it is.
SPEAKER_11I think it could be. How funny. Hello. Yeah, great. Thank you.
SPEAKER_01Go and enjoy the rest of the day.
BronwenThank you. We just spoke to the girl's director. His name is Jimmy, and that was he does like all the announcements and all the information and introduces all the shows. It's like meeting a celebrity. We just saw him. That is a beautiful bit of art about. I swear the art changes. I don't think I've seen this one. No, no. This is like a watercolour of uh the scene about uh kissed a girl from Little Mermaid. Yeah, it's lovely hands. Okay, we're coming on to the top deck. Yes. Go up.
SPEAKER_11Smell that chlory, that's a beautiful smell.
SPEAKER_10It's a lovely sunny day today. Had to cover myself in some cream earlier when we went for a swim.
BronwenBut it's cloudy, a little bit overcast, which takes the edge off a little bit.
SPEAKER_04That's true. Are they showing a film right now?
BronwenOh yeah, they think they are showing a film.
SPEAKER_11They show films like at the family pool. Let's see what they're showing.
SPEAKER_05What are they showing right now?
SPEAKER_07Oh, it's Encounter!
BronwenFrom Win's Favorite Encanto. I if I'm gonna watch Encanto, I need to sit down, I need to lock in. Yeah, yeah, yeah. This is kind of sort of like Count Hill, it's really not. And I the the point where we have uh dust creators, I need to be I need to be in a very private space. Yeah. I don't know how you sit out there uh because I bore my eyes out. Yeah, I bore my eyes out at the song about the two caterpillars. I know. Anyway, we are we've never actually gone no, we should keep going. We should keep going. We should get a full explorer.
SPEAKER_05Oh, if you heard that, that's the sound of the lifeguards.
BronwenLifeguards are kept very busy guarding the children's pool. Yeah. God bless them, they are working hard.
SPEAKER_10Oh yeah, the queue is the queue is looking about the second. Yeah, yeah.
Bronwenaqueduck so perhaps that's just the standard view walking past waves one of the many bars yeah we're hoping to go to the uh do we still want to try and go to the pool bar later maybe oh we've forgotten about that maybe if we have time too time yeah yeah yeah there's so many things to do yeah so this is a bit of the ship we haven't been to before so here we have people playing basketball basketball yeah and there's mini golf yeah do you think we can walk past yeah we can walk past people play mini golf can't we'll stop for a little drink at the water fountain why not got my hair wet in the process anyone who knows me knows I am a big mini golf fan and that's I'll have to consider doing this on another occasion.
SPEAKER_13Okay so this is the back very back of the ship we are right now.
BronwenOh we can see the white cliffs of Dover.
SPEAKER_05We can indeed and I'm coming in and out of having mobile connection we're running the children we have stopped at ice cream with Mike Watsowski soft stuff as the American school having chocolate and banana squirrel. It's very good I'm so confused.
SPEAKER_13Right okay we're here okay now in the adult area much more lized oh then right thank you thank you shall we go down the stairs yeah hello afternoon afternoon I feel like we pick up a little bit more ambience going down the stairs it's immediately much more quiet.
SPEAKER_06It's busy after the day which makes sense yeah it's the perfect time for the day it's C Day it's the middle of the day everyone's having their afternoon isn't it very nice going down and down the stairs the outside Beauty and the beast later we will be coming to the Walt Disney Fair later yes for Beauty and the Beast where do my sunglasses end up ah in my pocket excellent right right let's promenade let's promenade yeah I think you can go all the way around so it was shown as like a little jogging circuit jogging it's one mile.
BronwenOh wow no sorry 2.5 laps as well right okay sorry that would be very fun oh oh this is a bit different oh you see a little princess no oh so many princesses on the ship today and that's Cinderella okay out we go still on the other side now it's very I'm not good at this hole because everything looks the same thing haven't seen anyone going for a job yet no oh we're going past the shuffle board I've done the shuffle board that's like it's like the small version yeah yeah James and I did that fairly recently I want to little bell these lifeboats are huge I can touch it I don't touch it touch the bird you touch the bird this is a good place to duck in probably yeah I think oh yeah I can see the the central yeah chandelier what we can't capture for the podcast is that smell of the cruise ship but we're getting some popcorn smell now this is beautiful wow so overlooking the atrium now who is the princess goofy sorry Pluto my apologies apologies Pluto is currently taking photos nice looks like there's a queue for someone who's going to arrive soon ah yes that's oh there's a little girl just standing in the spotlight waiting it's often Mickey or Mini there it's a long queue a lot of Disney princesses as it little girl princesses out today so little Aurora down there.
SPEAKER_13She looks very cute well they also do have a Bitty Boxy boutique oh they do don't they yes why aren't we doing that we're too old so we need to go down level don't we to look at the shops and we go down those steps like the fancy oh yeah gonna go down to it very fancy fancy my goodness you can imagine us now listeners walking down the grand staircase in the atrium Captain Donald Duck is at the bottom it's a very beautiful what I'm calling a chandelier I'm not quite sure what you would call it I think that's the closest word to it yeah gorgeous there's some beautiful like mosaics out and about where princesses come and stand you can meet them.
SPEAKER_09Yeah it's a nice backdrop isn't it very nice take a photo of the backdrop we have found our way to the shopping area once again once again Mickey's mouse that looks like a children's section on it we're gonna look at sea treasures one more time for the jumper that I really like oh yeah so the one at the front is a large so that's probably the one you tried on large extra extra large so much better okay oh these are so Oh wow I don't remember seeing those yesterday oh my goodness oh my god they're so expensive they're so gorgeous that I mean it's it's completely um so we're looking at a lounge fly that is the shape of the cruise ship and oh that is so cute just push push push I'll push against you there we go we made it but completely impractical it's a mug we've got too many mugs no mugs so soft that looks a good size actually how does it feel yeah good yeah that's good size I don't I don't think you'd want to go big early yeah yeah it's very it's very nice I do have a great jumper friends jumper but I wear a lot of jumpers.
SPEAKER_13Yeah jumpers are useful I like mini and that's my mini representation because I also love that's why I like the ears Captain Mini that's very cool.
BronwenAnd she's doing like the classic pose.
SPEAKER_13Yeah so I do like that.
SPEAKER_06Maybe I've sold myself let's do it I'm gonna do it yes are you ready to tap that still does that work?
SPEAKER_04Yes I'm sorry I was trying to wrong one that's right yes thank you very much that's alright and do we need to put another in the Volva or will we go just like that?
SPEAKER_09Just like this is fine thank you.
BronwenAnyone else put that no I don't know that's fine thank you very much oh yes please thank you so much I did it's I've got Minnie I'm taking Minnie home beautiful right shall we see if we can get a lift shall we we've walked a long way we have we've done so well it's the nice window one amazing fourth floor that's a lovely dress. And then we get some things on the we get there is Woody and Buzz three cabin arrows Jeannie Oh wow that was so clear Yeah that doesn't make sense I don't really understand that. Back to the room It is a particularly beautiful evening it is a particularly beautiful evening out here on wherever it is we are we don't really know.
SPEAKER_03I think we can still see the white cliffs of Dover and hey if I have internet now I should actually be able to like oh okay yeah we're along the south coast has me inland so that's not the most accurate oh wait wait oh no now we're out at sea we sort of um the nearest known places are Eastbourne and Worthing.
BronwenOkay it's very nice to be here on this lovely evening.
SPEAKER_04Yeah our last evening our last evening well last time they heard we were shopping they actually have me on recording bikes.
SPEAKER_02Oh that's true yes but maybe you should explain in case I don't keep the whole thing in.
BronwenSo I have spent I have given more money to Mickey because that's apparently what will keep me young. Yes we've just been talking about I I wasn't able to get my first uh choice jumper because they only had it in large and above and I'm a medium and it was just too big for the large. And I have instead got a grey jumper with Captain Mini on the front and it says Disney cruise line we'll put a picture of it. We'll have to put a picture of all of our merch. Yeah definitely hard instead and uh yeah because I love Captain Minnie. I love the fact that she's been driving the ship I think she's been doing a fantastic job and yeah but yeah then we then we came back to our room had a little break we watched a bit of this time we've watched eight small sections of films being shown on the Disney Channel we've seen a small section of Camp Rock 3 that was interesting. Look they're kids doing this film I don't want to be disrespectful. It's not our thing because we're too old for it and I wish all the kids in that film the best but okay I think we've had enough of Camp Rock and then we want some of Alvin I think it's Alvin and the chipmunks three chipwrecked if it's not three and I've got that wrong I'm not even sorry because I don't care and yeah that was yeah okay and then what have we just done Megan that's far more interesting we went to our last show our last show of the cruise which was Beauty and the Beast yes it's an award winning version of Beauty and the Beast which I didn't kind of realise that it's not just okay let's take the I don't know Disney Park stage production and bring it onto the cruise like this was a new version of obviously the same story and it was really good.
SPEAKER_02It was amazing it was really good yeah yeah and so it's been the same team of performers yes at all the shows do three shows a day. They must be exhaustive and they're so talented.
BronwenThey're all so talented I thought yeah the the dressing at the stage was incredible um the costumes were amazing incredible yeah I loved like how they were acting as the uh like Lumiere and Cogsworth and Mrs. Potts they were all really good um I liked that they clearly got a little boy just from the like just a little boy on the cruise dressed up to be chip as a little boy he ran across the stage super cute he did so well that little boy did so well he did an amazing bow it was very professional he did great they'd obviously spent like the last hour right trying um it was very good I it's an award winning show and it deserves to be an award winning show I think yeah yeah they did really well with the transformation of the beast yes yes they really did Gaston was great yeah great Gaston had a brilliant voice great Gaston um I thought it was a really interesting interpretation of be our guest it was really interesting that they were all dressed up as food and like I particularly like the lady dressed up as bread yeah her dress was fantastic yeah she looked amazing there was a carrot man there was fish yeah everything it looked really good I thought now I think you'll probably remember like the Broadway version better than me but I felt they'd given the beast more of a backstory so explaining that like he was very close to his mum and then his mum died and he was left with this um like really horrible father who wanted the beast to be as horrible as him sort of thing. Yeah definitely that's new I think that's post the film whenever that was 2017 18 the live action yeah I think I kind of understand why because and we obviously I don't want to say too much about it because I'll get into this when we cover it in the podcast but yeah the beast obviously he doesn't make sense because humans can't turn into beasts But if we just assume that the magic exists, his sort of nastiness doesn't really make sense, in my view. So it's the but it's a classic Disney trope right now to explain why someone is so evil. Like that's why Disney's doing a whole version of films on that, aren't they? Like maleficent and cruella, like this is why this person is the way that they are. So, no, I that's new, I think. I quite sort of liked it though. It kind of worked for me from a psychological perspective about attachment.
SPEAKER_02So um and I thought it somehow it kind of made more sense of the relationship between him and Belle. Yeah. Because it can be a little bit difficult to understand why Belle would fall in love with a beast when he's captured her father and then captured her, and I get that they get closer and stuff, but still it's a big hurdle to overcome.
BronwenIt feels like Stockholm Syndrome, doesn't it? So it doesn't, yeah, it doesn't quite make sense. I think that's the biggest issue with the story as Disney tells it. Uh, is that it doesn't quite make sense. But yeah, this helped it along a little bit because she's able to go, oh, okay, this he's he is also a victim of circumstance, he isn't just uh a bad guy. Um would now be a good time. I want to do something. James always asks me at the end of any trip we go on, which is to say what our like top three favourite things on the trip have been.
SPEAKER_02I wasn't prepared for that.
BronwenI'm sorry, I'm sorry. I feel like I don't know if we're gonna um record again. I'll try and come up with three.
SPEAKER_02I mean, maybe it's the three shows.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02I love this sitting out on the veranda in the beautiful evening hearing the water.
SPEAKER_11I love my new jumper.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, okay.
BronwenShows, veranda, jumper. I mean, shows this. I mean, that's three different things already in there. So which would you say is your was your favourite show? I think Beauty and the Beauty. Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Um so what else did we have? We had Believe and what was the first one? Gold Mickeys. Golden Mickeys, yeah. Um I mean it's good that they were all different.
BronwenI was gonna say it's a mean question because they're all very different for a reason. Like they've really done that deliberately. No, it's nice. Um what are your three favourite things? Um I liked going on the aqueduct. Oh yeah! That's really good. I like going on the aqueduct and the hot tub, that's why I'm gonna put those two together. Like uh, I really like the Euromast. Oh yeah, and getting the view of the boat. Yes, I thought that was great. Uh the best bit of Rotterdam. Getting to see Rotterdam from above. Yeah. And then what's the other thing? Well, if Megan's saying allowed to say shows, I'm gonna say shows too. Pretty big one. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Um I also did like seeing Toy Story 5. That felt like really a very a not sorry, I was gonna say very unique, not right, a unique way of seeing a new film. Yeah, to see it on a lovely cinema. Lovely cinema, um great film. So yeah, yeah, that was good stuff. So what else? I mean, we've still have things to do tonight. Yes, we have a meal to have. We have a meal at the animators' palace. Yes. It looks like an interesting menu.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, I need to look at the menu. Yeah. And then there's a a farewell party this evening, isn't there?
BronwenYes. I was I was thinking we could do sort of what we did last night, maybe not. Because just go and have a drink and listen. Yeah.
SPEAKER_11I feel like maybe we could take the mics along to that.
BronwenYeah, yeah, yeah. So we got to get a little bit of a divide to say goodbye. Yeah, and then um we're gonna have to be off early in the morning to get our trail train. So sadly, we we're probably gonna miss our breakfast, but that's okay because we've had lots of dining experiences and lots of food. So exactly. Yeah, that'll be okay. And hopefully the train journey will be a bit smoother than last time. Yeah, well, we can only hope. We can only hope. Yeah, yeah. So we so Megan, let's get it on record. Are we doing a Disney cruise again? Hell yeah. Yes, yes, we are. We are Disney cruising. It's been it's been brilliant. A blast.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
BronwenRight. Well, let's sign off there for now. We need to do one sign off. Should we go inside and do our sign off?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, really like I don't want to miss the sunset. We'll come back out on this to do the the yeah, you know.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it needs to be done. It needs to be done.
SPEAKER_03So we don't deserve any. Yeah, we don't want to deserve a sign off.
BronwenOh, there we go. Right, there we go. Okay, that'll do. Well it's time to say goodbye, so we have to do our thing.
SPEAKER_11Let's go to our farewell party.
unknownThere we go.
BronwenOh, I thought it was happening. Have we missed it? Maybe it was happening in the atrium. Maybe that's what it was. Uh yeah, it's all quiet up here. Oh, oops. Oh well, never mind. That's why everyone was there.
SPEAKER_10Yeah. Oh well. Well that was all a bit crowded.
BronwenYeah, hello.
SPEAKER_10It looked very good. Um so we could go to that bar up top. Yeah, or there was this bar down here. I don't think so. Is that one's still open? Yes. No, it's looking closed. Get our final cocktail of the day. Final cocktail of the day.
SPEAKER_04Oh, and then shower and snuggle down to car three. Sounds perfect. Isn't that the perfect evening?
SPEAKER_11Living the dream.
SPEAKER_00Hello.
SPEAKER_10Could we have two cocktails of the day, please? Thank you very much.
BronwenWhatever they are, whatever they are.
SPEAKER_10Just trusting the system.
SPEAKER_04They're always fruity. They're suitable for pinga.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Oh so pretty.
SPEAKER_02I'm kind of surprised the farewell party isn't up here.
SPEAKER_04I wonder if they thought it was more Oh lovely, thank you.
SPEAKER_00Marvellous.
SPEAKER_11Thank you. Thank you very much. Lovely. Should we go go over here again?
SPEAKER_01Oh I use papers. Oh yeah, sorry. Don't forget about that bit.
SPEAKER_10Just take them away.
SPEAKER_11Beautiful.
SPEAKER_10Let me in. Right.
BronwenWell, final cocktail. Cheers. Cheers. Great cruise. Great maiden cruise. Yeah. It's been good stuff. I'd do it again. Absolutely.
SPEAKER_02Oh, that's nice. Oh, do you not like it? Roman's pulling a very uh a face.
BronwenA very stretched face, I would say. It's very tart or sour or something.
SPEAKER_00I think it's quite subtle. I hope it's subtle as a different.
SPEAKER_02Maybe I need to mix mine.
BronwenOh, how interesting. It's not subtle. Well, my compliments to Minnie and Mickey on their running up the ship. Yeah. They've done good. I hope they've had time together, you know. Just chill and enjoy the bars and general experience. Do you want to tell the listeners what you thought of this evening's meal and restaurant? I the restaurant was perhaps my favourite. I really liked it. It was the animators palette. Is that right? Yep. And uh I was particularly taken by the butter knives, which were shaped like paint brushes. Yeah. They looked incredible. Um and it was all very it was very Pixar, wasn't it? And um lots of sort of sketches around the room. There was like a buzz light year on a shelf nearby. Uh and then they had a talking crush, which we were trying to work out how it works. Yeah, there was a screen next to us. It was probably like the one in Disney World, like Talk with Crush or whatever it's called.
SPEAKER_02Because he was actually responding to the things we were saying. Yeah. In a very noisy restaurant.
BronwenYeah. I have no idea who the person was or how they could hear us or see us. Because he was commenting on like things we were wearing. Yeah.
SPEAKER_07So that was very impressive.
SPEAKER_09Coolest dude. Uh and the food was very good. I like the food. It was great.
BronwenYeah, I had my favourite starter there. It was a black truffle pasta thing.
SPEAKER_11Yeah. They were delicious. They were so flavoursome, and then it was in a like champagne sauce. That was already good.
BronwenSo I'd say that's my favourite starter. I think I'm now stuffed. I know we're worrying about not having breakfast tomorrow. I'm like, that's fine. I'll be absolutely fine, don't worry about it.
SPEAKER_02Just all three nights I have not had room for pudding.
BronwenOf the puddings we've had, I wish I'd had room for last night's pudding, the creme brulee, because that was delicious, but I could only manage like a mouthful, and then I was like, I am done.
SPEAKER_02Well then.
BronwenVamos! Vamos.
SPEAKER_01Time to chill out and watch castro.
SPEAKER_08Oh yes.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, I'm glad we got in the pool.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, that was good.
BronwenI don't think there's anything. I don't think there's anything massive that we missed.
SPEAKER_10No, no, we did want to go to that bar.
SPEAKER_12Yes.
BronwenUm maybe I don't know, some more of oh another time I might could go to this bar. Yeah. There's also some of the classes or the things they put on during the mixology. Yeah. Well things like they do like drawing, they did like a tour.
SPEAKER_07I feel like we were doing we were doing all the core stuff this time.
BronwenAbsolutely, we can expand that next time. Oh, it's about Evangeline. I really like this. I really like him and Evangeline. I like Evangeline. Why are you so mean about Ray? I'm not mean. I just don't like him.
SPEAKER_02I think that's mean.
